I walked yesterday and today and, I think, accomplished about 7-8 miles. Hard to know because I am using more than one app and sometimes I forget which one and to restart them after a rest.
Today was definitely more organized than yesterday. But I feel like Jack and I got tired earlier. Jack is certainly ready for a nap when we’re done.
I got concerned that I wasn’t going to accomplish the miles needed to keep on the moving (as in moving camp) schedule. But I looked again today. It’s about 22 more miles for the front half of this leg and 80 miles for the second leg. I have enough time to work up to full steam ahead and not over do it. Plenty of time, actually. But I never trust my calculations.
As my house sitter pointed out today: “Reality Strikes”. Today feels like a routine is starting to form. Got up feeling rested. Coffee, etc. On the road by a little after 9. But definitely tired after a few miles. It’s not a lot different than the Tobacco Trail except that I have Jack. That adds a different feel and dimension. He is doing great on the trail. No pulling on the leash and, for the most part, not distracted by bikes and other dogs. The trainers suggested that I not let others pet him for a while as that is a reward. I want him to bond tightly to me and that means he gets EVERYTHING from me, including any love and pets. But that is really Hard for me. I love that he is friendly and wants to be friends with everyone. I want him to be the best, well behaved dog and I guess that means I sacrifice some of what I enjoy for a while. I am working on it. It also feels rude. Whadda ya gonna do?
It’s Friday night and the campground is filling up with campers. Some folks are gonna have a Really Good time. There is a group a couple of sites down from me that remind of Jamie Hagar’s group of friends. They are setting up a little village. A couple of huge tents, tables they brought, twinkle lights all over the site. I will get some surreptitious pictures. (Love those camera phones.) Although, I am guessing they wouldn’t mind. Right next to me is a family with a little boy named “Jack”. That might get confusing. They don’t seem real friendly at this point but that may change. Their music is odd. County music but then, occasionally, a totally RAP song comes on. Quite a contradiction. And some genres or artists that don’t really recognize…
There are also some really big RVs. One really nice Airstream. Those folks seem to be closer to my age. But that is also hard to tell.
Folks bring their living rooms to the outdoors then spend all their time in their living rooms.
Time for bed.
One last thing: It seems as though most of us have a love/hate, mostly hate, relationship with auto correct but WordPress doesn’t have it and It is driving me crazy.
