Sheridan, Wyoming

Jack and I are in Sheridan, Wyoming. We’re staying at a KOA and it is pretty nice. They have a swimming pool and we may take advantage of that, Or, at least, I will. Jack is not allowed.

We are going to spend a few days here. My dad lived in Sheridan in his teens and it is where my parents met in 1954. Just for clarity, my dad was 29 by then, and back from WWII. My mom was 20. I have grandparents buried here, I think. I am going to see if I can find their graves. Seems appropriate to the trip somehow. A sort of pilgrimage to my own ancestors. I also have cousins that may still live here. I am going to try to look them up. I don’t know if they will be the long lost relatives or if I will be the long lost relative.

It’s going to be hot. But, hmmm, maybe not as hot as Bynum has been so not complaining. “It’s a dry heat.” I don’t really feel the difference. It is all misery to me. And we are not looking at rain. Again, not complaining. I have heard that Chatham has been under a deluge this summer. With the high temperatures. I feel ya.

I don’t yet know where we will go when we leave here. Eventually we will be headed to Guernsey, Wyoming. My uncle Dwight, mom’s brother, passed away about a week ago. His services will be there on the 22nd and I would like to be there for that. My mom grew up in Guernsey, with her 10 siblings. There were 6 boys and 5 girls. All that is left now are 1 boy and 3 girls. It seems that they were all pretty close and they feel the loss of their siblings deeply.

The only other sure date of activity is to be back in Washington state by the first of September. I will be there about 3 weeks, gathering up the rest of my mom’s belongings to bring them back to North Carolina. Honestly, an arduous task. My mom was a hoarder and she had a lot of stuff. I will have mostly her papers. My siblings and I have already dispersed the bigger things with my siblings doing most of that work. I feel like this is doing my share.

That’s it for now. Jack and I are going to have a pretty lazy day. We may go into town and have a look/see. Get the lay of the land. And a little pool time later on.
