I am finishing my ninth week out here in the wilds of America. It’s been a little rough. I thought I would be here, ready to just walk every day, between four and five weeks from leaving Bynum. It has taken me Nine weeks. I have a Lot of Grace around this adventure so I am not really disappointed or surprised, I guess. It is where expectations have run head long into reality. But it’s all good.
This is the first time I have stayed in my campsite in the cold and rain since I started. I have been high-tailing it into warmer abodes when it got too miserable to stay outside. I now have the camp set up to withstand the onslaught of wind and rain. My “tent in a tent” is working well to keep me and Jack dry. But tonight will be a real test of the new campsite setup. Severe weather is expected over night. We will see what it looks like in the morning As for keeping warm I am also wearing 1-3 layers of clothes and have enough blankets. Also, I have an electric mattress cover. (thank you, Alison Pollowitz.) I don’t worry about using too much energy from my generators any more as I have found some easy ways to recharge when needed. The bathroom here has flush toilets and electrical outlets. So tonight will definitely be a warm mattress cover night. And maybe 4 layers of clothes.
FYI: Jack also helps keep me warm. And he likes to be under the coves in the coldest part of the night. We’re both warmer when he is there.
Update: We’re fine. Everything held up really well. But it is still cold and windy. I move tomorrow so will spend some time getting ready today.
We were able to walk a little bit today. I found the Panhandle Trail and we drove to the beginning of it. We were able to walk about 4 miles but got caught in the rain there so cut the walk short. I plan to be a little more prepared next time so that we can keep walking.
One last thought; I do like the sound of the rain on the tent. Just wish it didn’t mean everything would be soaking wet in the morning. HA
