The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Path

I officially started the Great American Rail Trail yesterday. Here’s the link.

I actually went out to Georgetown University and walked back into Washington, DC. Got to mile Zero of the C & O Towpath. It is at Thompson’s Boat House, a landmark in DC. There was a lot going on there. They were having scull races. The crowd was pretty big. I didn’t understand any of it.

But the day was beautiful, sunny and a little chilly when the wind blew. Jack did great walking it all the crowds and along the route. He got a little anxious, as did I, when big buses would go by. Gave him lots of treats.

Today we are going to try to get from the Capital Steps to Thompson’s boat house. Yesterday, when we were in that area, I got distracted by all the monuments and memorials. I saw the Vietnam memorial for the first time. That was powerful. Of coarse, the Lincoln Memorial, Today we will get up close to the Washington Memorial as we make our way to the boathouse.

  1. Enjoy the sunny days! Hopefully you’ll see cherry blossoms in DC too. Can this blog support photos? Would love to see what you’re seeing!
