And today sucked

It has been cold and rainy and Jack and I have had a sucky day. First, I spilled my entire Venti cup of coffee before even taking a sip. I was still inside Starbucks so didn’t make a mess on my stuff. It took a…..long…..time….for someone to come help me clean up the mess.

Then I did laundry. The laundromats here only use cards. I have to get a card and load it with money then do laundry. So, at this point, I have two cards for two laundromats with money on them. That I can’t get back. I have to really do the math to make sure I don’t overload the cards. That sucks.

Then I started getting messages that I was at my data limit on my phone. Honestly, I don’t really understand all that. But got really worried. I have only been on the road a week. So it felt like I had used a shit ton in a short period of time.

I tried to find a place to be inside, warm and dry, so that I could research data plans and figure out how to manage this. I thought I had done so and knew I would use more on the road but that was quick. Turns out that I am using more but also at the end of the month. It turns over tomorrow. So not as bad as I thought.

Taking Jack inside of businesses has been a challenge. I have gone with the “beg forgiveness rather than ask permission” strategy. Mostly. So far, it has gone pretty well. But I had to beg forgiveness in Starbucks today. So I practiced asking permission the rest of the day and didn’t find any place to be warm and dry.

So we checked into a motel for the night. I feel a little wimpy but I am also Warm and Dry. And Jack is happy.

  1. I’m not sure what your camping situation is and how many campgrounds you are pre- booked at but it may be worthwhile to try and stay at sites that have electricity so you can use heating blanked on cold nights or fan on hot. I know for me the older I get the less tolerant I am to want to endure discomfort. Otherwise embrace the journey and have fun!

  2. That was a sensible move, NOT wimpy. Keep slow and steady (and warm). No pneumonia permitted.
