Here I go..

Yes, you have not heard from me in a while so it might be a surprise to hear that I am ready to go on this trip. I leave Sunday, March 30th,

I have spent the last year or so getting ready. Walking the Tobacco Trail and other exercise for training. Making reservations at National parks and state parks. Getting gear. In the next few days I will be packing up a new (used) vehicle and heading out.

The new vehicle is a 2005 Honda Element. It will hold all my gear (and then some) plus me and CrackerJack, my dog, and his stuff. I adopted Jack in September and he will be my traveling companion. .

My first temporary home will be at Killens Pond state park in Delaware. I will be there 14 days then move to Greenbelt, Maryland, for 2 weeks. The first part of the walk will be from Rehoboth Beach to Washington, DC. I am planning on taking about a month to do this portion of the walk. It is about 190 miles. This should give me enough time to get up to speed. My goal is 12-15 miles per day 6 days a week.

I have been quite anxious at times, the past few weeks. Sleep has been elusive as I have been getting ready and going over details in my mind. But it doesn’t occur to me to abandon the trip. I feel like I am on my path, so to speak.

It’s Wednesday today. I had a lovely send off at Morning Coffee. All that love and support is going to be with me the whole way. I feel anchored here in Bynum so will not lose my way as I travel. The invisible strings will keep me safe.

I still have a “shit ton of shit” to get done so will be back later.

  2. Exciting Carrie. I’m sure planning and making camping reservations took some planning. I’m excited to hear more details of your journey as you go. Would love to hear about the tent you chose or are you using the back or your car… what campgrounds you are using and your critique of the campgrounds. Etc.

  3. Really looking forward to reading about all the things people usually miss during their everyday lives such as sunrises and sunsets along with reports of changes in topography as you continue on your journey.

You’re living the dream. I’m sure it will be a great experience.
