Milestone

Yesterday I walked 12.5 miles on the American Tobacco Trail. I have been working toward this walk, the entire ATT, for several months. The trail is 22 miles and we achieved over half of that. Two friends were with me, Susie Crate and her daughter, Tuyaara. We started around 8:30 in the morning, from the Tobacco Campus in Durham, NC. The trail weaves through Durham county into Chatham, then Wake. The entire portion of the trail that we walked was in the urban area of Durham. We went along the edge of SouthPoint; Through Woodcroft; Near NCCU; We also crossed over 40 on a foot bridge above the freeway. We saw a bunch of really beautiful mushrooms along the trail. Not too many critters. Several bike riders passed us coming and going. A a fair number of folk taking their morning constitutional.

Rain was expected from Hurricane Helene but we were lucky and stayed dry. When it became evident that I was too tired to continue we called Dawn Porter. She was on call to pick us up when we were done. Thank you for that, Dawn. It seemed to be a challenge for Susie and Tuyaara, too, but they seemed to weather it well. We were all definitely tired.

Even though I had hoped to walk the entire 22 miles I am happy with 12.5. I learned a lot and it was fun.

Looking a little tired.
